New page

Welcome to Reality Wiki! A wiki is a collection of linked pages that people improve together. You do not need technical expertise to contribute: start with a small correction, a clearer explanation or a useful source.

'''You cannot break the wiki software by editing an ordinary page.''' If you accidentally remove text or make the formatting look strange, it can be repaired. Every saved page edit creates a revision in the page history, recording the change, the editor and the time. Earlier versions can be compared and restored.

== Your first edit ==

# Sign in to your account.
# Open the page you want to improve.
# Select '''Edit''' or '''Edit source'''. To change just one section, use the edit link beside its heading.
# Make your change. Plain text is fine; you can learn formatting as you go.
# Enter a short '''edit summary''', such as “Corrected spelling” or “Added a source”.
# Select '''Show preview''' to check the result. Previewing does not save your work.
# Select '''Save changes''' or '''Publish changes''' when ready.

If editing is unavailable, you may need additional permissions or the page may be protected. Ask an administrator for help.

== Simple text formatting ==

When editing source, these examples show what to type:

* Italic text: <nowiki>''italic text''</nowiki>
* Bold text: <nowiki>'''bold text'''</nowiki>
* A section heading: <nowiki>== Section heading ==</nowiki>
* A bullet point: start a new line with <nowiki>*</nowiki>
* A numbered item: start a new line with <nowiki>#</nowiki>
* A link to another wiki page: <nowiki>[[Page title]]</nowiki>
* A wiki link with different display text: <nowiki>[[Page title|words readers will see]]</nowiki>
* A website link: <nowiki>[https://example.org Descriptive link text]</nowiki>

Leave a blank line between paragraphs. Use descriptive headings and short paragraphs so others can find and understand the information.

== Building knowledge together ==

A wiki page is a shared document. Other editors may expand, correct or reorganise what you write. That is how the information improves.

* Make straightforward corrections directly.
* Explain significant changes in the edit summary.
* Support factual claims with reliable sources. Include enough detail for readers to check them.
* Distinguish evidence, interpretation and unanswered questions.
* Discuss substantial or disputed changes before rewriting large sections.
* Be respectful: question ideas and evidence without attacking people.
* After a discussion, update the article to reflect the agreed outcome.

You do not need to make a page perfect in one session. Small, useful improvements count.

== Using discussion pages ==

Most content pages have an associated '''Discussion''' or '''Talk''' page. Use it to ask questions, suggest changes, compare sources and explain disagreements. Keep the main page focused on the information readers need.

To start a discussion:

# Open the relevant article.
# Select '''Discussion'''.
# Select '''Add topic''' if available. Otherwise, edit the discussion page and add a new section at the bottom.
# Give the topic a descriptive heading, explain your suggestion and include relevant evidence.
# Sign your contribution by typing <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>. When saved, this becomes your username and a timestamp.
# Save the page.

For example:

<pre>
== Could we clarify the source for this statement? ==
This paragraph makes a claim without a source.
Could we add a reference or explain the uncertainty? ~~~~
</pre>

When replying in the source editor, place your response below the relevant comment and begin it with a colon to indent it:

<pre>
: I found this report, which may help resolve the question. ~~~~
</pre>

Sign discussion comments, but do not sign ordinary article text: article contributions are already attributed in the page history.

Talk pages are public on this wiki. Do not post private information, passwords or confidential material.

== Checking changes and fixing mistakes ==

Select '''View history''' to see the page's saved revisions. You can:

* Open an earlier version by selecting its date and time.
* Select two revisions and compare them to see exactly what changed.
* Use '''undo''', where available, to reverse an edit. Review the proposed change and save it with an explanation.

For a simple mistake, editing the current page is often easiest. If several people have edited since the mistake, take care to preserve their useful contributions. Ask an administrator if you need help restoring material.

'''Removing text from a page does not remove it from the revision history.''' If sensitive information is accidentally published, contact an administrator promptly.

Unsaved typing is not recorded in page history. Save useful work regularly.

== Following collaboration ==

Use '''Watch''' or the star beside a page to add it to your watchlist. Your '''Watchlist''' helps you follow subsequent edits to that page and its discussion.

[[Special:RecentChanges|Recent changes]] shows activity across the wiki.

== Official help and documentation ==

These guides explain the standard MediaWiki tools. Some features may depend on this wiki's configuration.

'''Start small, preview your work and ask questions. Mistakes are recoverable, and collaboration makes the wiki better.'''
